As a result of the signing of the healthcare reform bill last
March, insurance coverage will be expanded to include over 32
million Americans. This influx of new patients, in addition to
federal regulations that call for the healthcare industry to
automate its information sharing processes, will increase the need
for providers to implement an organized health information
exchange (HIE)
system.
Services such as InFrame, an HIE service that facilitates
communication between providers and patients, stand at the
forefront of developing care management software, according to
BusinessWire.
Launched earlier this year, InFrame allows care delivery
organizations to decrease the costs of operation by streamlining
referrals and simplifying the exchange of medical images and
information.
MEDecision CEO Scott Storer said that it is "a solution that
eliminates the hurdles to health information exchange and enables
partners to more seamlessly communicate and collaborate around
shared patients."
Electronic record-keeping will also help to reduce medical errors
by comprehensively displaying patient information pertaining to
medications and care history.
