Health Language Inc., which specializes in terminology management, is partnering with MEDecision, which provides payer-based clinical summaries and care gap alerts to doctors. The aim of their collaboration is to help MEDecision comply with and take advantage of the ICD-10 diagnosis code set. The ICD-10 codes, which will be required as of October 1, 2013, have greater granularity than the current ICD-9 codes because they're far more numerous and specific.

MEDecision is pushing the electronic health record all the way out into clinician's hands with a new app for its InFrame product. The new app, available March 30 through Apple's iTunes store, will allow clinicians to access patient records from smartphones, tablets and other portable devices, the company says.

The technology to support these types of telemedicine is advancing speedily along. The speed of physicians and health plans adopting it, however, is a different — and much slower — story.

FierceEMR recently reported on a North Carolina State University study that says it isn't necessarily the unwillingness of stakeholders or cost issues that's impeding the proliferation of EHRs, it's primarily consumers' concerns about the privacy and security of their medical information. This really struck a chord with us here at MEDecision. It has long been our position that fears over EHR privacy have been largely unfounded and, perhaps, a bit misinformed.

The president has been very outspoken in his belief that EHRs are essential to health care reform and that the subsequent savings they'll generate will help to strengthen the larger overall economy.

With co-morbidities of DC Chartered’s members stretching its clinical capabilities, the Alineo Collaborative Health Care Management platform will enable the private managed care company to better manage its 80,000 members, said CEO Karen Dale.
